Lara August, Founder and CEO of Robot Creative, has joined forces with a group of veteran investors to launch the Women in Investing Initiative, a new program designed to educate and empower more women to become confident angel investors. Lara co-leads the initiative alongside Aurora Archer, CEO and Founder of The Opt-In™ and Gabriele (Gabi) Niederauer, Co-Founder and CEO of Freyya, in partnership with the Alamo Angels.
The initiative brings together a local group of female leaders to build a stronger presence of women in early-stage investing. It creates a space where they can network, share knowledge and gain the confidence to put capital into early-stage deals. No prior investing experience is required.
Angel investing is one of the most powerful ways for individuals to participate in innovation, support ambitious founders, help bring new ideas to life, diversify their portfolios and gain access to an asset class that has historically been reserved for a small segment of the population. Women remain significantly underrepresented in these conversations. Women make up roughly 30% of active angel investors in the United States, and they only invest about 18% of total angel capital, according to the Angel Capital Association (2024).
The Women in Investing Initiative was created to close this gap. From August through December, the founding cohort will meet monthly to build a working understanding of venture capital, including learning the landscape, evaluating companies, understanding deal terms and ultimately developing their own individual investment thesis. Each session builds on the one before it, giving participants time to learn, ask questions and develop their own perspectives together.

Collectively, the three founders bring decades of experience building and leading companies and supporting organizations from early-stage startups to major corporations. Gabi has navigated four successful exits; Aurora has led transformation efforts inside Fortune 50 corporations; and Lara has built one of the region’s most respected branding and marketing firms. All three bring more than a decade of angel investing experience to the table.
